Myanmar, July 2017 | Carey Davis

How can we as global citizens address issues that will, in time, affect us all? This is a fundamental question that Carey sought to answer through “Thought Experiments” allowing bright young minds to challenge conventional thinking and find new pathways to address world issues.

To honor Carey, the projects will provide students with opportunities to address some of the most vexing issues of our time, which include environmental sustainability, ending poverty, protecting global health, promoting peace and security, and quality education for all.

Starting in the fall of 2019, undergraduate student teams at University of Toronto will create proposals that deeply examine an issue and outline actionable solutions. An award will be available to a student team with an entry based on the ideals Carey valued: insight, creativity, and interdisciplinary connections. The selected team will be empowered to implement solutions through collaboration with other organizations.

At this time, the projects are working toward an endowment to help make impact over the years to come. With generous support from family, friends and others, we’re making strides toward a $100,000 goal to help turn insights into action. This includes cornerstone support from the University of Toronto, in both resources and financial commitment, and its Munk School of Public Affairs & Public Policy.
